PPTC GL Assessment

PPTC Entrance Assessment (GL) Special Circumstances Pack

The pack for claiming special circumstances is available to download from the PPTC website.
Special Circumstances Packs should also be available from the Assessment Centre where your child sat the GL.

PPTC

The Post Primary Transfer Consortium Ltd (PPTC) is a not for profit, private limited company made up of a group of schools which normally use academic selection within their year 8 Admissions Criteria. The PPTC includes Catholic grammar schools, Non- denominational grammar schools and Integrated schools in its membership.


Contact PPTC

The PPTC does not have a central office, email or telephone number.
Your point of contact for everything relating to the GL is the Assessment Officer at any of your local GL grammar schools (PPTC Assessment Centres). Or if you have registered your child for the GL then you should contact the Assessment Centre where you submitted the registration form to, or the Assessment Centre where your child will sit or sat the GL.
You should be able to get a contact email address and/or telephone number from the school's website. 


Entrance Assessment (GL)

  • The PPTC Entrance Assessment is commonly referred to as the GL, GL Test or GL Assessment.
  • The assessment consists of 2 standardised papers and are multiple choice in format.
  • The Maths Paper has 45 Questions and lasts 45 minutes.
  • The English Paper has 60 Questions and lasts 50 minutes. - Changed to 50 questions in 50 minutes for November 2021 Assessment
  • There will be a short practice session before each of the papers and, between the papers, the children will have time for a snack and a toilet break.
  • The children will record their answers on a separate computer marked answer sheet.
  • The Entrance Assessment will be set and marked independently by GL Assessment.
  • The aspects of English and Mathematics covered by the Entrance Assessment are consistent with the legal requirements of the Northern Ireland Key Stage 2 curriculum.

Saturday 11th December 2021: Supplementary Assessment

2021/22 PPTC (GL) Registration Pack

The 2021-22 Registration Pack, which includes the Entrance Assessment Registration Form is available to download from the PPTC website.
Registration opens on June 1st 2021 and closes at 2pm on Friday 24th September 2021.


PPTC schools not using academic selection for 2021/22

The following schools have announced that they will not be using GL Assessment results to select pupils for 2022.

  • St. Mary's Christian Brothers Grammar School, Belfast
  • St. Michael's College, Enniskillen
  • Thornhill College, Derry

Each school will have their own admissions criteria for 2022.
